It is going to be one busy skateboarding weekend in Europe starting today, August 19th until August 21st. The Vans Downtown Showdown 2011 returns to Europe and to no smaller city than London, England. The Old Spitalfields Market in East London (UK) is the venue for the third edition of the Vans Downtown Showdown 2011 tomorrow, August 20th. The event runs from 12:00 to 18:30 with the contest beginning at 13:00 GMT.
Twelve of the best skate teams from all over Europe are arriving in London as I’m typing this to test their skills on the custom built ramps which are all designed by the invited teams themselves.
After Torino, Italy and Hamburg, Germany hosting thr event, we can expect to see the top pros from Death Skateboards, Element Europe, Antiz, Superdead, Cliché, Blind Europe, Blueprint and many more teams putting their skateboarding skills to the limit. A combined prize total of 50.000 Euros is up for grabs at this year’s Vans Downtown Showdown and luckily enough, everybody can watch it through the live webcast – right here on Europeskate thanks to Freecaster.com – if you can’t make it to London. Lots of action so tune in tomorrow!

5Boro have just released this cinematic skate short, Fall ‘11.
It sees the New York skate crew take to the streets to both skate and show of the majesty of this great city.
Along the way, the hooded assailants take in such delights as the Brooklyn Bridge, a statue and a traffic cop…
..still, it’s shot very well.

The U.S. and France often get a bad rap for not seein eye to eye but one thing we both agree on is that Fred Mortagne is one of the best skate photographers and filmers in the industry, better known as French Fred. Proven yet again in a masterful skate edit for Cliche Skateboards.
He’s often credited with the birth of a filming technique that mastered rolling and long lens focus, obviously dubbed the “Frangle”, after it’s innovator. He combines unique camera angles with catchy..

Life for today’s skaters isn’t nearly what it was a decade ago. With the growth of huge sponsors, contest prize purses, a never-ending stream of media coverage, and high-tech training facilities the possibilities are endless for those with ambition. The possibility of fame and fortune is very real.
But 16-year-old Louie Lopez could care less about all that. His outlook resembles that of skating’s golden age, when it was simply about the fun.
To that point, it..
