There was an amazing post at the DLX website yesterday that deserves special attention. When the Real Autism Speaks Demo rolled through North Carolina last year, it was the inspiration for the organization called Concrete Cures, which uses skateboarding as…

Get some free fresh new clothes from Fidelity Skateboards by just telling us who your favorite pro skater is.
That’s right, stupidly easy this giveaway contest – just write a comment TO THIS POST (underneath the picture here…) telling everybody who your favorite PRO skater from the past or present is/was AND tell us why. That’s all.
Make sure you include your real email address and where you are from, country is enough (just want to make sure you are a human being – we hate spam!)
End of this contest is February 1st 2010 at 23:59 GMT – we’ll pick from the comments which are entered correctly randomly the winner of the 2 t-shirts and announce it on the same post! Get to it, I’m looking forward to the answers! Maybe if enough answers come in I’ll summarize the results.

These days it seems like skaters and skate companies often spend a lot of energy trying to separate themselves from skateboarding’s roots in surf culture. Obviously, we’ve come a long way from Dogtown and the current state of street skating is a far cry from emulating wave riding and “aspects of the down hill slide.” Sure, some surfers are serious barneys. I’ve been working on halfcab flips for a minute now. They’re a stock trick but one that can be elusive and tough to get just right. Way too many people out there (myself included) do the type of halfcab flip where your board basically scraps the ground as it flips. There was time when Slash (no, not that Slash) used to go by the name Brian Hansen. He had long hair dyed black, a clean-shaven face and rode for Pig Wood. Then something happened. The child that was Brian Hansen disappeared one mysterious day and in his place stood a grizzled, blond haired, full bearded wrecking ball that only answered to Slash. This new man, shared similarities with the boy that disappeared. He skated with wreckless abandon and showed little regard for his body or well-being. Slash…

Last night, President Obama delivered his first State of the Union and spent a good deal of speech addressing the concerns of his fellow Americans in the wake of one of the worst economic crisis in our lifetime. The recession has touched virtually every part of our lives, even skateboarding. With 10% unemployment across the board and a long, slow road to recovery ahead, the skate industry (the pros, bros, skate shops and company owners) is battening the hatches. We talked with Chris Cole, Tony Hawk,…

Altamont have just released their latest Cut from a Different Cloth… video starring Brian ‘Slash’ Hansen.
Slash shows us round his buddy’s house complete with bong, gold clubs and Simpsons memorabilia before cruising off for a spliff and admitting to a spot of dog-napping.
Best hope the police aren’t watching, Brian…
