Skate Mental has been pretty busy lately, putting together new products for their Fall/Winter Catalog 09, a new website (which will make you go crazy if you keep looking at the background and all of the blinking elements for more than a few minutes *hehe*) and their collaboration product line with Nike SB. As usual their designs and ideas keep skateboarding fun, especially the “Attack of the Killer Nutria” and the “Alien vs. Predator” decks are my favorites. I do have to wonder a bit about the “Dolphin Style” deck which is almost, well let’s say a bit disturbing – wonder who came up with that idea!
The Skate Mental / Nike SB product line offers a Dunk High, a hockey jersey with some bloodstains, 2 t-shirts with pretty much typical piss-take designs which are great, 2 ‘Nike SM’ t-shirts and a winter jacket. Oh yeah, on top of all of that there’s even a backpack which supposedly comes with a red blanket for the cold season and that would come in handy right now for a lot of us!
The following skaters ride for Skate Mental: Shane ONeill, Brad Staba, Matt Beach, Dan Plunkett, Reese Forbes and John Motta.

Austrian skate pro / filmer / photographer Philipp Schuster is featured in this HD video with him skating his home town of Vienna, Austria – these days his hair is bit shorter but that doesn’t have anything to do with his skating right? Johannes “Johnny†Meyer is the man behind the lense for this video entitled Episode II.

Not missing out on a day yet in December with the Pic Of The Day series and I have another nice shot for you: this one was taken by Phil Blair (check out his photo gallery…) featuring Matt Zwiesler doing a frontside ollie in – as Phil puts it and I must agree – the coolest backyard in Orange County. What a dream, imagine having that behind your house!

Getting a bit of the Alzheimer in my older days – I almost forgot to post Crossfire’s annual X-Mas Jam which is taking place tomorrow, December 12th 2009 at the Bay 66 Skatepark in London, England.
Skating gets started at 12pm and goes on until 6pm with an unsponsored best trick competition and pro skater contests taking place in this time. Later on after what promises to be a great session the party goes on at The Metropolitan later on. I’m not going to waste my time copying and pasting the names of all ofthe top notch skaters who will be showing up, head over to the Caught in the Crossfire website to read all about it. Oh yeah, it costs 10 or 12 pounds to skate! Want to wet your appetite? Then check out some of the action from last year’s event!

I just love pools and bowls so it’s no wonder that this incredible shot from Clément Le Gall (check out his photo gallery…) featuring Jeremy Hughes doing a frontside salad crail – no extra infos to this pic but I’m trying to contact him about how he took the shot.

For those of you who are into punk music Strung Out is a band to know that has been around since 1992. Sure, it’s not like we are expecting something amazingly new with this latest full length release (seventh studio album and 13th release on the Fat Wreck Chords label) “Agents Of The Underground” but they continue to put together a strong mix of fast drums, gripping melodies and the always present guitars which will get me to the next show here in Hamburg. Here and there it gets a bit close to the so-called pop-punk type of sound but still, good work guys!
This record has already been out since the end of September 2009 so yeah, I’m behind on this check-out but whatever – go listen in yourself!

Now we are talking, none of this crawling around and flipping on the spot garbage, here’s the real deal – land it or pay for trying. Over in Scottsdale, Arizona where winter is not even in sight skaters got together with a speedometer and found out who can land the fastest kickflip, nollie flip, switch trick and 360 flip. Good idea but they were lucky enough to be doing it on a surface that you could lay your body down on and slide out your bails with ease. How about a rough surface contest or downhill tricks??? Yeah, that could end ugly…

The Quiksilver / Transworld Skateboarding “The Program” video series continues with part 2 featuring skating from Christian Hosoi, Tony Hawk, Omar Hassan, Justin Brock, David Clark, Kyle Leeper, and Austyn Gillette. This time around the mountain and wave logo gets some transitions and a bank. Justin Brock wins for me with a trick at the end plus a frontside stalefish in the tightest transition.
